About The Denver Nuggets

The Denver Nuggets are members of the Northwest Division within the Western Conference of the National Basketball Association (NBA). The team was founded in 1967 as the Denver Larks, but their name was changed to the Rockets before their first season in the American Basketball Association (ABA). In 1974, the franchise adopted its current name, the Nuggets, in anticipation of joining the NBA in 1976 as part of the ABA-NBA merger.

The team's colors are navy blue, sunshine yellow, and flat irons red. Their logo features a stylized mountain peak with a pickaxe, symbolizing Colorado's history with mining and the gold rush.

Throughout their history, the Denver Nuggets have experienced varying degrees of success. While they have yet to win an NBA championship, the team has captured multiple division titles and made numerous playoff appearances. The Nuggets have also reached the Western Conference Finals on several occasions.

Some of the most notable players in the history of the Nuggets include Alex English, Dan Issel, David Thompson, Dikembe Mutombo, and Carmelo Anthony. More recently, the team is now led by stars such as Nikola Jokic and Jamal Murray.

Denver Nuggets Playoff Tickets

All Denver Nuggets playoff tickets are available on TicketIQ, for both home games and road games.

The NBA Playoffs are in the third year of an expanded format which was made to include more teams in the postseason. Initially there will be an NBA Playoffs Play-In Tournament to determine the 7 & 8 seeds in each league.

The regular season 7 and 8 seeds will square off to determine who the overall 7 seed is in the playoffs. The loser then faces off against the winner of a contest between the regular season 9 & 10 seeds. The winner of that game will then be the 8 seed in the playoffs.

After this Play-In, each league will play under a fixed bracket with 1-8 seeds each. Each 7-game series is played in a 2–2–1–1–1 format. The First Round determines who makes it to the Eastern Conference Semifinals and the Western Conference Semifinals. Then the Conference Semifinals will determine who plays in the Eastern Conference Finals and the Western Conference Finals. The winners of the Conference Finals go on to face off in the NBA Finals.

Denver Nuggets Playoff History

The Nuggets have had a rich history in the NBA playoffs since joining the league in 1976. Here are some highlights:

1980s Success: The Nuggets experienced success in the playoffs during the 1980s. They advanced to the Western Conference Finals in 1985, led by players such as Alex English and Fat Lever, but lost to the Los Angeles Lakers.

Late 1990s- Early 2000s Struggles: After a strong showing in the 1993-94 playoffs, where they upset the top-seeded Seattle SuperSonics in the first round, the Nuggets struggled in the late 1990s and early 2000s, not winning another playoff series until the 2008-09 season.

The Carmelo Anthony Era: After drafting Carmelo Anthony in 2003, the Nuggets consistently made the playoffs, though they struggled to advance past the first round. The notable exception was the 2008-2009 season when they reached the Western Conference Finals, only to lose to the Lakers.

The Nikola Jokic Era: After a few years of rebuilding, the Nuggets returned to the playoffs in the 2018-19 season with a team centered around star center Nikola Jokic. The Nuggets advanced to the Western Conference Semifinals in 2019 and then to the Western Conference Finals in 2020, losing to the Lakers again. In 2021 the Nuggets lost in the Western Conference Semifinals to Phoenix Suns, and in 2022 got bounced out of the playoffs in the first round by the eventual champion Golden State Warriors. Finally, in 2023, the Nuggets clinched their first trip to the NBA Finals, sweeping LeBron James and the Lakers in the Western Conference Finals. They will face the Miami Heat, who defeated the Boston Celtics 4 games to 3 in the Eastern Conference Finals.
